Optimizing Jim`s World

I uploaded my 10th daily vlog this morning. I cant believe I have not only managed to record 10 vlogs but uploaded one every day for the last 10 day.

When I have not been talking to my camera I have been watching some of the bigger, more successful daily vloggers to see if I can pick up any tips or tricks of the trade. One thing I have noticed is how the big daily vloggers title their posts. Lets take FunForLouis as an example he would title his vlogs thus

Journey to Kampala | Louis Cole Daily Vlogs 125 (actual vlog post.. LINK)

Where I would title one of my daily vlog posts thusly

Vlog 10. The Bridge Abseil  (not an actual post..)

It occurred to be last night that the way the big daily vloggers title their posts is very search engine directed with the actual post title first, then their name and finally the vlog post number. The constant use of their name in the vlog title is going to give them a big presence on the internet, especially if you were to consider that someone like Louis Cole has uploaded over 137 video`s on this one channel alone.

With this in mind this morning I changed the way I title my daily vlog posts from the way you see up there to..

The Bridge Abseil | Jims World Vlog 10  (actual vlog post... LINK)

As well as the way I title my daily vlogs I have also changed my channels Keywords and Meta tags in the hope that they will attract the attention of the search engine bots and spiders. One other thing I have done for prosperity`s sake is take a screen shot of my YouTube channel as it looks today so that I can see if there has been any change in my channel at random points in the future.

A Vlog Post Every Day For 365 Days. Vlog 1

Oh you lucky people, two blog posts in one day. I am spoiling you.

Today I managed to record the first vlog of 365 vlogs, if this "experiment" works out well I might continue it on past a year, that's "if" it is successful.  It actually took me most of the day to record this post, we are getting our passage way plastered and every time I turned on my camera and started to record the guy plastering our walls piped up asking me to repeat what I had said, thinking I was talking to him.

I do do this for fun and I was actually having a good time while recording this vlog honest, even though it looks as though I'm not, but if I am honest this video was unscripted and recorded in about 20 minutes which is a record for me, forgetting the nearves I managed to get a lot of what I wanted to say out in one go. Yay me..

I am planning on taking my vlogging out side and around my home town once my confidence grows and I don't get so tongue tied in front of it.

Note to self: Look like your am having a good time in my next 3000 odd vlog posts.

If you have any ideas for things you would like me to do or talk about in my daily vlogs let me know either by commenting here on my blog or on the video its self.

Breaking Through The Big Guys

It occurs to me that one of the hardest things to do when you first start out making videos on YouTube  or any other vlogging platform is getting your videos noticed through the videos that the big guys are making, the ones which are more like a professional TV show than a video blog.

At times it seems like quite the daunting task, there are many times when you start to think "what's the point" I know I have had this thought many a time. You get told so many times that unless you have been making video blogs for years or at least since the start of YouTube that you don't stand a chance, and yeah, comments like that do knock holes in you and make you question why you want to make videos.

In the beginning of YouTube it was just a bunch of people making videos for a laugh and putting them on the internet, because there were not that many "big" names out there you could get 1000 or more views and subscribers with little effort, Pogobat as an example started making videos of himself doing tricks on a pogo stick, now he is one of the big guys who can get a thousand video views within the first 20 minutes of him uploading a video. Today the competition is a whole lot bigger with huge corporate like channels such as The Philip DeFranco Show (notice how I haven't linked his show? He doesn't need any more publicity than he already gets), how are the little guys supposed to compete with that?

But this is not about the big corporate type channels that YouTube love this is about the little channels which are just starting out or have been creating good content for a while but just don't get noticed because of the noise created by the big boys, the channels who are trying for that one chance to prove them selves.

Frazer Varney a vlogger with over a years worth of vlog posts and just over 300 subscribers  hit the nail on the head in his latest vlog post "Everyday May - Fame and the little guy", where he talks about how the big YouTubers for the most part seem to have forgotten where they cam from.

Anyway, watch the video and you will see what I mean.

I read somewhere that the vlog or the Video blog is making a come back, more and more people are starting to look for people sat in front of a camera and just chatting about.., well, stuff.

Frazer is right in what he talks about how the smaller channels need to help each other out by talking about other channels trying to make it, publicising their videos in an attempt to give them a foot up, even if the channel in question only gets one person subscribing to them it might be that one subscription that makes all the difference.

I honestly believe that it is time that the smaller channels band together and make a sub-community (if that is the right word) a community where we help each other and retweet or reblog each others content. As Frazer so rightly said you "Never forget the little guy because one day the little guy could become the big guy".

Lets start laying the foundations for the little guys out there.

Vlog A Day Start Postponed.

I was planning on recoding and uploading my first vlog post today from my vlog a day for 365 days experiment but no.. Instead I have a poorly little girl, two lots of homework to help with and a few trips to the little boys room with stomach cramps. Too much info I know.

I have to get into the mindset of always being ready to record if I am going to do this vlog a day thing.

If I am honest (which of course I am) doing this is going to take me a long way out of my comfort zone. It takes me ages to record a video for YouTube to start with, its not unusual for me to have to go over the same line a dozen or more times until I get it right, I am always messing up once the camera goes on. A while back I made a blog post Video Blogging Is Easy, well, its bloody not, not for me anyway.

I have agreed to do this challenge so that I can, with any luck build my confidence in front of my camera to the point where I can hold a conversation with it at the drop of a hat. I have to say it will be interesting to see how I progress as the year goes on as well as the random stuff I come up with. I already have an idea for one thing I will be doing, but you will have to wait and see what it is <insert immature farty noise here>.

We have the builders moving in tomorrow for a couple of days to plaster the stair way so I guess that's a good a time as any to get vlogging, hey if +Chris Pirillo can do it then so can I.

If you haven't had a chance to pop by and watch my videos now is a good a time as any my channel as always is Jims World (click the name to go there, its a link) and while you there you might as well click that Subscribe button then go and tell 1000 of your friends how I am breaking the rules of YouTube by vlogging without a main, successful channel and get them to subscribe as well.

Go on.. I dare you..

The 365 Day Vlog Challenge.

Hmm, do I or don't I?
I have been challenged in a round-a-bout way by +Deven Rue  to do a 365 day video challenge. That's a vlog post every day for a year.
I see her point about bringing a person out of them selves and out of their comfort zone by doing this  but I don't know. I know that I do have problems with messing my words up when I am recording my videos. Will this help?
So I throw myself to the lions so to speak.
Do I accept the challenge or not?
What do you think?
